APRO
Acronym for Aerial Phenomena Research Organization. APRO was founded in Sturgeon Bay Wisconsin during January 1952 by Coral & Jim Lorenzen for the purpose of investigating UFO sightings. The group collected UFO data from all over the world and its membership peaked in 1967 with 1,500 members. During 1969 APRO splintered when a large percentage of its membership led by Walt Andrus formed MUFON. In 1987 APRO moved to Illinois. In 1989 it became ICUFOR. APRO was among the first ufology groups to seek support from the academic community, establish a panel of scientific consultants and initiate annual UFO symposia.
