Project Twinkle
Project Twinkle was the code name the USAF project that investigated the phenomena of green fireballs which had been frequently reported during 1948 and 1949 in the USA.

The project was undertaken between September 1949 and December 27, 1951 with the objective of capturing a green fireball on film. Astronomer Lincoln La Paz headed up the project, but unfortunately a combination of reduced sightings and less equipment than anticipated yielded no pictures that we know of. It has been hypothesized that the green fireballs were meteors similar to the daylight fireball filmed in 1972, the bluish green coloration resulting from a high magnesium composition.
